![]() I'm dreaming of a white.... Mother's Day??? Yep, after several days of rain, moms here in Denver were greeted by several inches of snow that fell overnight. So in honor of the day, here is a painting by one of the most well known 'mom' artists, Anna Mary Robertson Moses, better known as Grandma Moses (1860-1961). Shown is the winter scene, Sugaring Off, which sold for $1.2 million in 2006. She started painting at age 78 and was quite the celebrity in her time, appearing on the covers of both Time and Life Magazine. She was good friends with Norman Rockwell who lived nearby, and even appeared in one of his paintings. The TV character of Granny in the Beverly Hillbillies was modeled after her. A feisty ol gal, Moses once quipped, "If I didn't start painting, I would have raised chickens!" I'm glad she picked up a brush after the kids flew the coop.
