A post-impressionist nude painted by Amedeo Modigliani, titled Nu Couche, sold this month for $170.4 million. It is the second highest price paid for an artwork at auction. Only surpassed by Picasso's Les Femmes d'Alger (Version O) which sold for $179 million earlier this year. The canvas, painted between 1917-18 was purchased by Mr. Liu Yiqian, a former taxi driver, who's now a billionaire with investments in chemicals, pharmaceuticals and finance. The painting is destined for the Long Museum in Shanghai, which he formed with his wife, Wang Wei. It is the largest private museum in China. To learn more about the Long: http://thelongmuseum.org/

I 'borrowed' this cartoon from the New Yorker. And it is so true! If the Broncos game yesterday or the weather's got you down, go check out some art! You'll feel better, guaranteed!! And if its love at first sight, take it home. It will be a gift to your self that will keep on giving. And the week isn't just about visual arts, its also music, theatre, film and more.
