The 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso turns 80 today. He was born in Takser, Qinghai, China in 1935. He is believed to be the reincarnation of previous Dalai Lamas. Discovered as a toddler in a remote part of Tibet he was trained as a monk in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. He was formally made the Dalai Lama when he was 16, after the Chinese invasion. The Dalai Lama fled to India in 1959, and has lead the Tibetan government in exile from Dharamshala. He has since become a beloved world leader, affirming peace and justice. Earning the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989. I love this quote: "My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness." The Foothill Art Center Members Show closes this Friday, July 10th. My painting, Sunspots (RedX) has been used in email blasts and post cards to advertise the exhibit. It is in the Community Gallery, which is the house next to the church. And the final days this week are Tuesday thru Friday 10-5 at 1510 Washington Ave., Golden, CO 80401. For more info visit: http://foothillsartcenter.org/fac/portfolio/community-gallery/ |
